Great write-up Bill. Building on what Greg wrote, I recommend using a non-Administrator account for every-day activities. This way, when you're surfing around and a malicious site/email tries to slide something past you, your operating system will automatically deny the installation because the Windows/Mac account you're leveraging lacks proper authorization!

Thanks, Greg. I'll forward your comments to my tech. As for those two new security programs, I don't think they're redundant, but I'll check with him, as well as asking about sandbox app (Wow. Another new term!).

Good post.

A couple notes:

Backup! Backup and Backup!

2 AntiVirus progams are good for scanning, but only 1 should be running.

Have a backup computer. It does not have to be fancy, but it needs to be enough to get your work done.

Use common sense when on the internet. Get a separate system for surfing "those" kinds of sites and downloading dubious software. Most infections are not a result of "hacking." They are a result of user behavior.

Look into a sandbox app...it is an additional barrier between your web browser and your computer.

If you use your computer for your livelihood, form a relationship with a computer professional. Think of it the same way you form a relationship with a lawyer or insurance agent. Doing business with the same person/shop allows them to develop strategies that will save you cost and effort in the long run.

Oh, and backup all your data. Religiously.
