I was recently reading James Brausch’s blog and he was talking about how to create a successful internet business. This post of yours was a great complimentary/addition to what I read.

Ethics start at the top. Put the best interests of your customers first. Develop a code of ethics.

One of his tenets is that you don't hang out with people who don't share your values. He also talks about taking care of yourself and your family, not selling your soul to your business. A friend's grandfather went bust in the Great Depression, leaving debts in the wake of his business failure. A lot of folks did, but he spent years paying each and every one back.
