The Issue:

We are at another of those moments in history that reveal what people are all about. Specifically, the differences between Republican “Traditionalists” and Democrat “Radicalists” (to coin a phrase) are as clear as they have been since 1968, and are no prettier now than they were then.

What I Think: 

Last week’s financial market mess may have been bad news for John McCain’s presidential bid, but it was not exactly good news for his opponent. It remains clear that the opposing sides in this race could not see America more differently. A lot can happen before Election Day, but Republican McCain’s candidacy has soared (last week notwithstanding), while Democrat candidate, Barack Obama, once the toast of the town, is now–in many ways and for many people–just toast. How did all that come about?

Here’s the Short Course:

• Obama, a product of systemically corrupt Chicago Machine politics–with a long, unreputed list of Marxist influences and radical friends—proclaimed his ambivalence about the greatness of our nation to an audience in Germany (of all places), and was handed a seat on the Presidential Express with little experience and only the thinnest of resumes; John McCain earned a First–Class ticket.
• Dedicated to advancing Socialism in America, Obama has never challenged his own party or voted against anything, registering 129 “Present” votes in the Illinois Senate—something he won’t be able to do even once as president. Nor could he get away with speaking, as he did this week, of giving the feds “broad authority” to deal with the current financial crisis. Although hair-trigger volatile, McCain never blinks at providing leadership on the big issues affecting our country, often to the dismay of his party’s leaders and conservative voter base (including me!). 
• By his own admission, if Obama had been president this year we would not have launched the successful surge in Iraq, and the war would be lost. McCain has backed our Iraq effort from Day One.
• Obama’s VEEP nominee, Joe Biden, who had to bail on his own presidential run over plagiarism, among other black marks on his record, has expressed doubt about being the “best choice” Obama could have made: another sign of Obama’s poor judgment. Sarah Palin’s selection as John McCain’s running mate turned the presidential race on its ear. Radical/Gender Feminists (their bitterness and desperation growing by the day) can’t stand it, and enraged Democrats (reading the tea leaves) still can’t get their arms around the Palin phenomenon!
• Proving that moral clarity is not a requirement of running for high office, Obama has bought into the Left’s obnoxious social agenda, famously promising he would not want to “punish his daughters with a baby.” The McCains and Palins have demonstrably embraced life and the joys and challenges of family.
• John and Cindy McCain have adopted and raised four children, some from Third-World countries; Obama’s African half brother lives in a hut.

Summing up, the 2008 presidential race still boils down to this:

McCain/Palin’s Traditionalist belief in the United States v. Obama/Biden’s Radicalist agenda and indifference to America’s  greatness.

Former Secretary of Education, William Bennett: “I go for the man—McCain–who is his country’s man rather than for the man whose mind and heart do not seem yet made up about America.”
