Thirty Words that Sell
By Bill Sheridan on May 27, 2007 in Other Voices
A friend of mine from Fort Dodge, Iowa seamlessly transitioned from his career as a high school teacher and administrator to becoming a hugely successful financial services advisor.
John exhibits an incredible work ethic, uncanny marketing skills and the ability to hear a good idea and make it his own. One such idea was a list of words that are powerful and help his clients and prospects take action on his recommendations. His integration of them into his everyday vocabulary has helped him become one of the most successful producers in his community.
Frankly, I hadn’t thought of his list for awhile until attending a business meeting in Boston several months back. One of the attendees gave me his business card with a list of such words on the back of it entitled:
"$$$Thirty Words that Sell $$$."
The name of person you’re talking to; Easy; Safety; Positive; Comfort; Discovery; Benefits; Guarantee; Love; Trust; Happy; How; Understand; You; Vital; Deserve; Proud; Right; Proven; Money; Advantage; New; Results; Value; Health; Security; Free; Profit; Truth; and Save.
Undoubtedly, many, if not all of them, are those utilized by my friend John. I suggest that they become part of YOUR vocabulary in your small-business operation. These are thirty magical words that—if used regularly—will make your interactions with prospects something special.
"I’m positive that you will find it easy to earn their trust and end up with happy customers. They will profit from the vital truth that you impart. They deserve to save money and I guarantee that the advantage of having you as a provider of products or services will make it easy for them to improve their lifestyle. That results in increased productivity for your company."
