Hard Work Trumps Brains
My dad was a plodder … but he plodded his way to become an MD and picked up the title of “Nassau County Family Physician of the Year” two years in a row. I also know a couple of millionaires. I can beat the pants off them in a game of poker … and I’m lousy at poker.
Brilliant? Nah. Fact is, I know more brilliant failures than dull-witted successes. Intelligence has little to do with success. Give me a middling-IQ fellow with a willingness to put in 16-hour days over a Mensa brainiac who doesn’t know how to break a sweat any day.
My point: Want to be a success? Brains don’t hurt. But they aren’t all that important. However, there is no substitute for hard work and for a willingness to log long hours. So, work hard (let me repeat that: WORK HARD), make money … and have fun. — JRI

Then I’ll start working half days.”
