Competition works

I find it amazing when I hear people talk about "corporate greed" and business as if were a four-letter word.  Meanwhile these same folks overlook the failings of socialist systems and social welfare programs.

I remember when I was in grad school in the 1970s, a progressive and self-righteous professor insisted that "competition is always bad.  Always."  When pressed to explain, she said that one of the parties always loses and gets hurt in some way.  For all her education, she was ignorant about economics and human nature — specifically, that the way we get good, better, best is by being challenged. Sure we may fail one day, but we can then come roaring back.

The bottom line:  Competition is always good.  Always!  It’s fun, it’s exciting, and it brings prosperity (and note that capitalism is the only way for socialists to pay for their social welfare programs).  Enjoy the day and remember:  Capitalism and competition rock!  So, work hard, make money, have fun.
