George Washington was not a caricature with wooden false teeth who threw a dollar across a river. He was perhaps our greatest leader. With almost every other country, when a revolution takes place (in the last century alone: Spain, Cuba, Russia, China, Germany, to name just a handful), the winners assumed full control, consolidating power in themselves.
Our founding fathers, amazing as it may seem, actually cared about democracy and freedom. It would have taken very little for Washington to become president for life, or Jefferson and others to ban political parties or raise taxes to control the 13 new states.
Our country is unique among countries, the best and most fair that ever was, and it remains so to this day. God bless America! — JRIngrisano
