High Standards Matter
By John Ingrisano on Jul 30, 2009 in Entrepreneuralism, Quote of the Day
When I launched an ill-fated business in the Caribbean years ago, I never quit working to find ways, each and every day, to cut my costs by a fraction here, raise my sales by a smidge there, etc. It was a daily challenge upon which I thrived. (The business did fail, but that had more to do with a clash of business philosophies between my co-owner and me: My partner wanted to sit behind the counter and await the arrival of customers; I wanted to go out and drag them in by the lapels.)
The bottom line on business: Good enough is never good enough, especially in these lifeblood-sucking times. The best — and most challenging – thing about being a business owner is that we must be at the top of our game every day. Or at least try.
My point: Give it your all today and every day. Go home at night spent, exhausted, used up. A cheerful thought? Nah! But we’re talking about business, not some stroll in the park. So, work hard, try to make money … and have fun. — JRI
